This mosaic was designed for the exterior of The Gasyard Cente, in Derry/Londonderry. It is approximately 3.5m wide x 2.5 m in height. The Gasyard Centre is a community based arts centre in the Brandywell area of the city.
The theme for this mosaic comes from the cultural and musical happenings…inside the centre.
There is a local landscape ‘backdrop’ that illustrates the River Foyle, An Grianan – stone fort, in Donegal, three gas cylinder shapes (the old gasyard) and a small cityscape with peace bridge.
The sky has musical notes to signify the music classes and the city’s musical history. Also featured is an electrical guitar, violin, harp, piano, irish dancing shoes, artists palette and theatre masks.
It is made from mosaic tiles within a steel frame.
